It could even have Ken’s favorite comedian Ken Jeong as the center square. But I think Ken would agree that I could do a better job than a lot of the people currently hosting game shows. FFSsaid…This is why people pay a streaming service to watch a 1998 British murder mystery or 2002 Scottish sitcom. Or Hacks … thank you Ken for the recommendation. Everybody dances around, trying to generate this horrible fake party atmosphere.

You could’ve tried to reinvent the show with a current aesthetic but this repeat from 30 or 40 years ago just ain’t right. I couldn’t finish watching more than 2 episodes. Bolton reportedly dated Malta-born actress Valentina Agius in 2003, who later married Olympic gold medalist Mitch Gaylord (via Who’s Dated Who). The soul singer had a brief fling with “Entertainment Tonight” host Nancy O’Dell in 2003 , possibly meeting in an interview, but Bolton’s most publicized romance didn’t come until 2005. He makes so little sense as part of this show that he has somehow become my favorite part of the show. It’s more like brain inedible-object-one-finds-in-between-the-couch-cushions. (Maybe while searching for the remote?) Zooey speaks both overly loud and insincere. Michael looks like he’s mourning his career. Every person on stage looks incredibly awkward. Bolton will serve as an executive producer on “Celebrity Dating Game,” along with Charles Wachter, Christina Kline and Wendi Wan.

“She’s from Tuscaloosa / She was on The Bachelorette.” Meanwhile, for Azalea, he sings a version of Fleetwood Mac’s Don’t Stop updated to mention that she’s an Australian rapper. “Five Grammy noms / Five Grammy noms,” he adds at the end to be sure. To be fair, Michael Bolton struck me as a bizarre addition to the show from the very first time I even heard that ABC was rebooting The Dating Game with celebrities for the summer season.
Zooey trying to force a one-liner every 30 seconds really did it for me. Like I said, I was never a diehard watcher but I do remember the prior hosts let the jokes write themselves. I get the lack of innuendo with the “Me Too” movement, but the bachelors’ answers made it seem like they were scared to go too far, so they kept it as G-rated as possible. And to add to my ever growing list of possible guest hosts I’d like to suggest Rosie Perez. There is one game show that seems a natural for revival, the “Hollywood Squares.” I’m very surprised that no one has brought it back yet.
Offering the same iconic feel as the original classic dating show, each episode follows two celebrities who each pick one lucky suitor from a hidden panel of three bachelors and/or bachelorettes based on answers to a variety of questions. The celebrity identities will remain a mystery to their suitors, who are given clues via hilarious parody song performances by host Michael Bolton. Iggy Azalea is one of the celebrity who will appear on the show. The twist is that the celebrity identities will remain a mystery to their suitors, who are given clues via hilarious parody song performances by Grammy-winning host Michael Bolton.

The Celebrity Dating Game set makes room for Bolton and a piano so that the singer can add a bit of levity to the show as he performs some of his greatest hits. He’ll tweak the lyrics to give a clue as to the identity of the celebrity. “The funny thing about that is that it wasn’t a big deal,” Wachter says of incorporating LGBTQ+ celebrities.
That said, ABC has had a lot of success with new versions of classic game shows mostly by not monkeying around too much with the format . Given the overnights from Monday’s show were down about 15 percent from the premiere (although it was up in the demo) and the reviews have been horrendous, it may be one year and out. The Celebrity Dating This link Game kicks off on Monday night, hosted by Zooey Deschanel and Grammy-winner Michael Bolton (“How Am I Supposed to Live Without You?”), who also serves as executive producer. And the series starts on a high note, with Bachelorette star and Dancing With the Stars mirror ball champion Hannah Brown as the first celeb looking for love.
Harry Styles’ Dancers Address 2023 Grammys Performance Mishap
Michael Bolton adds nothing to this show. He looks annoyed almost as if he really does not want to be here. Interesting idea, but poorly executed. “Celeb” Dating Game seems on the surface a fun throwback the likes of which we have come to expect in the era of reboots, but in reality it is even worse than the brain candy that summer tv provides.
This could have been fun…but it needs to be recast or it won’t make it past 6-8 episodes. These performances feel like they’re being beamed in from a stranger, better version of the show. And that’s where The Celebrity Dating Game really falls down. Whoever made it can’t seem to decide whether it’s a straight remake of a classic format or a mockery of it.
Bolton also serves as an executive producer on the Sony Pictures Television series, which owns the Dating Game format, with Charles Wachter Christina Kline and Wendi Wan also producing. The original The Dating Game ran on ABC from 1965 to 1973. Though it was primarily for civilians, it did showcase some well-known figures — Sally Field, Ron Howard and, in one particularly misguided effort, Dusty Springfield — as well as a few celebrities before they were famous. The show matches has been celebrities with people who just want to be on tv…
Bolton also noted that his nearly 18-year love affair with Sheridan was “powerful” and that, although the actress was undeniably “gorgeous and funny,” their relationship “ran its course” . And, as it turns out, Bolton still believes he’ll find “the one” someday, as he’s just as romantic as his hit records indicate. “It’s just something that happens with you and somebody in your life,” Bolton told Access Hollywoodin 2013, adding that there’ll always be “certain people you’re always gonna love.” According to an announcement published by Reuters in 2008, Sheridan and Bolton began dating in 1992 and broke up five years later. Yet while the pair rekindled their romance in 2005, which led to their engagement in 2006, they broke it off for good two years later. “Nicollette Sheridan and Michael Bolton have amicably ended their engagement,” Sheridan’s publicist Nicole Perna said in an official statement.
