When I run the 1099 Transaction Detail Report for last year , no data populates the report. The vendors that I would expect to appear have the “track payments for 1099” checkbox checked in their vendor record. I can’t figure out why no vendors are showing up in this report. QB has changed the way the 1099 forms are processed. I do not need the new NEC, I only need 1099-MICS. I did not change anything in the way I marked vendors.

I’m getting stuck at a landing page that’s offering 3 different paid options on how QB will mail and/or file my 1099s for me. No where on that page does it provide an option for me to do this on my own for free. By law, you are required to issue 1099s when required. There’s even a question on your business’s federal tax return that asks if you filed the required 1099s. Answering this question dishonestly — or intentionally providing any incorrect information on a tax return — constitutes perjury. For this reason, 1099s are sometimes affectionately referred to as “tattletale” documents.
These questions are always answered as if we know where the information is. Are we to understand “expenses” is the same as “expenditures”? Even if I get that far, were are you directing me?
You will only issue 1099s to vendors you have actually paid, as these are cash-basis documents. Keep in mind, 1099s don’t include accounts payable or amounts still owed to the vendor. In this case, Bessie’s payments didn’t appear on this list because we didn’t include the category where her payments were posted in Step 3. It would have been easy to miss issuing her 1099 if we didn’t run the 1099 reports on all filters. In this case, we’re going to select “business” because Bessie gave us a W-9 with an EIN. QuickBooks Online will by default enter the business’s name as the vendor name you have on file.

A sole proprietor’s business name is always the individual’s legal name, even if they operate under a different business name.
